The film shows an attempt to summon Shchepkin’s spirit (a great Russian stage artist of 19th century) in Shchepkin’s house-museum in Moscow, in order to again give him the opportunity to play the main role in one of the classic Russian plays that he loved. However, the spirit is to be summoned not by a real person, but by a character, which is based on a real person (actor) under the guidance of another real person (a director and an actor). At all levels, what is happening goes to a point on the border of opposites for the sake of establishing metaphysical contacts: of metaphorical with literal, of real with otherworldly, of a character with its prototype, of theater with performance, and then with cinema, which, at this moment, is also born with the help of a professional cameraman
